Corsairs Introduce Dan Sharbaugh As Next Men's Lacrosse Coach

DARMOUTH, Mass. – Director of Athletics and Recreation Lori Hendricks announced the hiring of Dan Sharbaugh as the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach for UMass Dartmouth. He will oversee a program that was reinstated this spring as a varsity program and will compete in the Little East Conference during the 2026-27 academic year. He will join the department on July 1.

"UMass Dartmouth is eager to welcome back men's lacrosse," stated Hendricks. "We had a very competitive pool of candidates for the head coaching position and are thrilled to have Dan Sharbaugh's leadership for our return.  Dan brings a vision aligned with Corsair expectations for success.   He will be recruiting regionally and nationally to put together a team that will be exciting to watch."

Sharbaugh joins the Corsair staff after spending seven seasons with Illinois Institute of Technology. There, he served as the program's first-ever head coach for men's lacrosse, taking over the inaugural program during the 2020 season. In his tenure, he led the Scarlet Hawks to a 43-50 overall record. In just his third season, Sharbaugh led the program to a 10-6 overall record, where they went 6-2 in conference play.

The Scarlet Hawks were winners of their first ever NACC playoff game and ended up finishing as the conference's runner-up. His impressive season earned him 2023 NACC Coach of the Year honors. Sharbaugh continued the success, racking up at least six wins in his three most recent seasons. He saw 36 All-Conference Selections during his six-year tenure.

Prior to joining Illinois Institute of Technology, Sharbaugh was the head coach at Centre College. During his four seasons with Colonels, Sharbaugh went 33-27 and appeared in the playoffs every year.

In just his first season as the Head Coach, Sharbaugh and the Colonels won the Regular Season Championship after going 5-1. He produced 1 All-American, 19 All-Conference selections, a Defensive Player of the Year, and a Man of the Year in just four seasons.

Before becoming a Head Coach, Sharbaugh saw brief stints as an assistant at Gettysburg College, York College (PA), and his alma mater Eastern University.  He served as a defensive coordinator for both Eastern University and York, before moving to an offensive role with Gettysburg in 2012.

Sharbaugh is a 2009 graduate of Eastern University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business management. He was a four-year starting defenseman for the Eagles men's lacrosse team before joining the program as an assistant in 2010.
