PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East has announced its weekly honorees in women's volleyball and three UMass Dartmouth student-athletes have been recognized. Senior captain
Skye Peters was named the Setter of the Week, while classmate
Maddie Carter earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition. Additionally, freshman
Brooke Harrington was named the conference's Rookie of the Week.
It marks the second straight weekly honor for both Peters and Harrington and is the first of the season and second of her career for Carter.
In a 2-2 week for the Corsairs, Peters posted 135 total assists for a 9.00 assists per set average. In 15 sets played, she added a team-high seven service aces with 13 kills, 25 digs and three block assists.
Peters recorded 24 assists with two aces, a block assist and five digs in a 3-0 victory over Wheaton on Tuesday. She went on to post 34 assists with an ace, a block assist and four digs in a 3-1 loss to WPI on Friday. In a 3-0 win over Framingham State on Saturday, she notched 32 assists with an ace, a block assist and six digs, before posting 45 assists with three aces and 10 digs in a 3-2 loss to Johnson & Wales.
On the season, Peters has recorded 234 assists for a 9.00 per set average over 26 sets played. The Little East leader in assists per set has also posted a team-high 14 service aces with 15 kills and 54 digs.
Carter paced the Corsairs defensive effort last week with 14 total blocks, including two solo and 12 assisted over 15 sets played. She also added 21 kills, and assist and three digs.
Against Wheaton, Carter had three block assists with two digs and four kills before a block assist with a dig and eight kills against the Engineers. She went on to record a block solo and five block assists in the win over the Rams, before adding a block solo and three block assists against the Wildcats in Saturday's defeat.
Carter leads the team with 23 total blocks, including nine block solo and 14 block assists. She has recorded four digs with 41 total kills, an assist and a service ace in 26 sets played. Currently, Carter ranks second in the Little East in blocks per set with a 0.88 average.
Harrington had another outstanding week for the Corsairs, posting a team-high 75 digs overall for a 5.00 digs per set average. She added five service aces and 10 assists on the week in 15 sets played.
In the win over Wheaton, she recorded 12 digs with an assist, before notching 20 digs and three aces in the loss to the Engineers. Harrington added 15 digs with an ace and four assists in the win against Framingham, before adding a collegiate-best 28 digs with three assists and an ace in the loss to Johnson & Wales.
Through 26 sets played this season, Harrington leads the team with 117 digs, averaging 4.50 per set. She has added 15 assists and ranks second on the squad with 13 service aces. Currently, she ranks second overall in the Little East in digs per set, but leads the conference in overall digs.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday, welcoming Salve Regina at 6pm to the Tripp Gymnasium.
