DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth volleyball team battled back to take the fifth set and claim a 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 15-13) victory over Salve Regina in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center. The Corsairs – who are now 5-3 overall – were paced by a career-high 49 assists from senior setter and captain Skye Peters, including the 2000th of her career.
 
Peters added two service aces and 12 digs on the evening, while rookie defensive specialist Brooke Harrington had a match-high four service aces with 24 digs. Senior middle blocker Maddie Carter finished with seven kills and led the way with two block solo and three block assists, while classmate, outside hitter and captain Allison Pate posted a match-best 20 kills to go along with 12 digs and a block assist. Junior opposite Olivia Seutter rounded out the night with 18 kills, adding a block solo and two block assists with four digs.
 
 The Corsairs came out strong in the opening set, owning a 14-6 advantage behind a pair of kills from Pate, but the Seahawks rallied back. The visitors laid down seven of the next eight points to narrow the gap to 15-13. Salve tied the match multiple times until 21-all mark as a kill from Seutter and an ace from Harrington opened a 23-21 lead. The Seahawks pulled it to within one, but a kill from rookie outside hitter Norah Schweitzer sealed the set win.
 
Second set action saw the visitors open a 12-7 lead, but the Corsairs worked to inch back in. Trailing by four (17-13), UMass Dartmouth went on a 5-1 run to tie the match (18-18) and then capitalized on another 5-0 run to regain the lead for a 23-19 score. The Seahawks pulled to within three (24-21), but Seutter posted a final kill for a 2-0 advantage in the match.
 
The ensuing two sets were close affairs as well. In the third, Salve opened a 18-16 lead, but a kill from Pate narrowed the margin to 20-19. The Corsairs tried to regain the lead, shortening the Salve lead to 24-23 on an ace from Harrington, but a final kill from Anouk Jansen pushed the match score to 2-1.
 
Salve earned the fourth set win to force a deciding set that UMass Dartmouth came out firing on. The Corsairs dropped in five straight points to open a 6-1 lead, but the Seahawks did not go quietly, taking advantage of kills from three different players to make it a 12-11 score in UMD's favor. Salve tied it at 13-all, but a kill from Seutter and an error on the visitors sealed the match win for the Corsairs.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Friday when it travels to Babson College for tri-match action against the host Beavers (4pm) and Union College (6pm). The Corsairs then head to Brandeis on Saturday, taking on Endicott (12:30pm) and the host Judges (3pm).
