PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) has announced its weekly honorees in women's volleyball and three UMass Dartmouth student-athletes have been recognized.
Skye Peters was named the Setter of the Week for the third straight week, while
Maddie Carter nabbed her second straight Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Allison Pate was recognized for the first time this season as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.
It was another incredible week for Peters, who became just the fourth player in the program's 55 year history to record 2,000 career assists, recording a career-high 49 assists in a 3-2 victory over Salve Regina on Tuesday.
On the week – through five matches – Peters posted an incredible 171 assists, adding nine service aces, six kills, 50 digs and six block assists. In addition to her 2,000th against Salve Regina, she notched 45 assists with 11 digs, three aces and a block assist in a 3-1 win over Union on Friday. Peters also recorded 34 assists with a kill, three aces and nine digs in a tough 3-2 loss to Brandeis on Saturday.
For the season – through 48 sets played over 12 matches – Peters has recorded 405 assists, averaging 8.44 assists per set. She has added a team-high 23 service aces with 21 kills, 104 digs and nine block assists. Currently, Peters leads the Little East Conference in both total assists and assists per set.
Carter had another outstanding week, recording 24 total blocks – including five solo – over five matches played on the week. In addition, she added 33 kills with six digs overall.
Among the highlights of the week, Carter had two block solo and three block assists – adding seven kills and a dig – in the victory over Salve Regina. She went on to record six block assists with two kills in a loss to #22 Babson on Friday. Carter then added three block solo and five block assists in a 3-1 loss to Endicott on Saturday.
Through 12 matches this season and 48 sets played, Carter has recorded a team and Little East-high 47 total blocks, including 14 block solo. She has added 74 kills with an assist, a service ace and 10 digs. In addition to leading the conference in total blocks, she ranks second overall in blocks per set with a 0.98 average.
Pate nabbed her first weekly honor of the season after recording a team-high 71 kills on the week through five matches. She went on to add 57 digs with four assists, four service aces and three block assists.
Among the highlights of the week for Pate was a 20-kills effort in the win over the Seahawks, adding 12 digs with a block assist. After notching 10 kills against nationally-ranked Babson, Pate set a new career-high with 21 kills, adding 11 digs in the win against Union on Friday. She finished the weekend with 11 kills and 17 digs against Brandeis.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday, welcoming Thomas College at 5pm to the Tripp Athletic Center.
