DANBURY, Conn. – Sophomore Kiariana Williams scored in the second half and the UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team battled with WestConn to a 1-1 tie in Little East Conference (LEC) action on Monday afternoon. The Corsairs move to 1-5-2 overall and are 0-2-1 in conference play, while the Wolves are now 4-1-5 and 2-0-1 in the LEC.
 
After a scoreless opening half of action, both sides worked to get the ball into the net for the advantage. The Wolves fired in a shot in the 46th minute off the foot from Abby Corcoran, but Corsairs netminder Emma Juelis made the stop from the low center spot.
 
UMass Dartmouth then banked a flurry of shots as one from junior forward Phoebe Gesner went wide, while two more came from Williams, who forced goalie Gracen Regan to make the stop in the 66th minute.
 
Williams finally broke through in the 69th minute as her shot banked past Regan to put the visitors up by a 1-0 score. UMD continued to try and hold the lead, nearly getting another tally as a shot from sophomore defender Kate O'Nuallain forced Regan to make a quick save down low.
 
In the 82nd minute, the Wolves took advantage on a penalty kick opportunity as Delaney Israel fired a shot past the reach of Juelis to tie the game at 1-all. Williams had one final attempt in the 87th minute to try and get the go-ahead, but her shot went just wide.
 
Williams led the Corsairs with six shots in the game, including three on goal with the lone tally for UMD. O'Nuallain added four shots, including three on goal, while Gesner and junior midfielder Lilly Jaeger each had two shots, including one on goal. In goal, Juelis finished with eight saves to earn the draw.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Friday with the Corsairs Game of the Week as they welcome Vermont State University Castleton to Cressy Field. Kickoff is set for 3pm.
