NEW LONDON, Conn. – The UMass Dartmouth women's volleyball team took on a pair of tough opponents in tri-match action on Friday, splitting with the Coast Guard Academy and Endicott College at Roland Hall. The Corsairs battled to a 3-2 win against the Bears,  before falling 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 23-25) to the Gulls.
 
Trailing after a narrow loss in the opening set, the Corsairs battled back with a tight win of their own in the second to even things at 2-0. UMD used that momentum to record a 25-19 victory in the third for a 2-1 advantage, but the homestanding Bears forced a fifth set after gaining a 21-25 win. The Corsairs battled to the 16-14 victory in the fifth to seal the match win.

Leading the way for the Corsairs was senior captain and outside hitter Allison Pate, who notched 20 kills with 18 digs, two assists and a block assist. Junior opposite Olivia Seutter added 16 kills with a block assist and a dig, while senior middle blocker Ella Soutter had nine kills with seven digs and a block solo. Rookie outside hitter Norah Schweitzer had 19 digs with two assists and two service aces to go along with seven kills, while freshman defensive specialist Brooke Harrington added 16 digs with two assists and a service ace.
 
In the second match, Endicott jumped out to the lead after a 25-17 first set win. The Corsairs made it a close one in the second, falling 25-22 and the Gulls held on in the third set for a 25-23 win to take the match.
 
Seutter paced the effort in match two, adding nine kills with an assist and four digs. Pate posted eight kills with four digs, while senior captain and setter Skye Peters added 27 assists - giving her a total of 75 on the day. Schweitzer added six kills with seven digs, while Harrington paced the Corsairs effort in digs - recording 15 overall.
 
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday, opening its home slate at Tripp Gym against Wheaton College at 6pm.
