Mark Gaffney joins the coaching staff at UMass Dartmouth prior the season, bringing a wealth of college and high school basketball experience from a variety of levels.

Most recently, Gaffney has served at two prominent Division III programs in the Northeast; from 2010-12, Gaffney was an assistant at Roger Williams, where he aided in the program’s first-ever regional ranking. From 2007-10, he was the top assistant at Hamilton College, where he coached the Continentals to the 2008 and 2009 Liberty League titles and mentored three All-Liberty League players.

For seven years, Gaffney was a high school head coach in Ohio, most recently leading the program at Lima Senior High School in Lima, Ohio. While there, he successfully developed one of the top high school programs in the Midwest, posting an overall record of 86-51 and gained the program’s first-ever No. 1-ranking in the state. He coached and mentored Travis Walton, who went on to be a three-time captain at Michigan State and the 2009 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

Gaffney received his Master’s in Education at Xavier University in 2001, and was an assistant for the Musketeers for two years. He is a 1994 graduate of Bridgewater State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
