Tommy Keyes is entering his seventh season as Assistant Coach at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. A former player and two-time Captain for the Corsairs, Keyes stayed on the bench joining the coaching staff in the 2016-2017 season.
Keyes helped lead the 2021-2022 team to the program's 15th NCAA tournament Bid before falling in the Sweet 16 to the eventual National Champion. The team won the second most games in program history (26) and captured the Little East Regular Season Championship and finished the season ranked 16th in the country by D3Hoops.com. The Corsairs played in their third consecutive Little East Championship game, after capturing the Little East Tournament in the 2021 season.
Since his first season in 2016, the Corsairs staff has produced a NABC District II Player of the Year, three NABC All District II players, two Offensive and Defensive Little East Conference Player of the Year’s, 12 All Conference players, three Conference All-Defensive Team players, and two Conference All-Rookie Team players. The program has also seen five players eclipse the 1,000 point margin since 2016.
Keyes holds responsibilities of creating opposing team scouting reports, film uploads and exchanges along with team breakdowns, recruiting operations, player development, and on-court coaching as well as any other duties asked of him by Head Coach Brian Baptiste.
A native of Fall River, Mass., Keyes brought a State Championship to the city in his Senior year at Bishop Connolly High School. He won the prestigious Dave Cowens Award in that same season. Keyes attended Salve Regina out of high school where the Seahawks went 17-11 and played in the CCC Semifinals and the ECAC Tournament. Keyes played nine more games in Newport, R.I., totaling 37 games played before transferring to UMass Dartmouth. With the Corsairs, Keyes appeared in 35 games where his teams played in the Little East Conference Semifinals and in the 2016 championship game, which was the first appearance in the title game since 2009.
Keyes, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, holds a Bachelors Degree in English and is a teacher in the New Bedford Public Schools System. He also is the High School Director for Rise Above Basketball AAU Program, in which he coaches the Varsity team along with being in charge of player development for the entire division through practices, showcase camps, and tune up drill nights. During summers, Keyes is also a personal trainer for male and female basketball players from instructional levels to professional players at Next Level Factory in South Dartmouth.
