Corsairs Fall at Univ. of New England

BIDDFORD, Maine -- Three student-athletes on the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's swimming team combined for all six individual wins this afternoon as the Corsairs fell 158-103 in a duel meet at the University of New England.

Sophomore Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.), freshman Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.), and classmate Jenna Leanues (Lakeville, Mass.) each won two races to power UMass Dartmouth. 

Flanagan demonstrated her versatility this afternoon, winning the 100 and 1,000 freestyle races, respectively.  The sophomore from Fairhaven, Mass. was the first swimmer to touch the wall in the 100 yard freestyle, stopping the timer at 58.83 seconds.  She also led the Corsairs to a 1-2 finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, when Flanagan completed the event in a time of 11 minutes, 55.81 seconds.  Senior Ally McCarville (Stoneham, Mass.) placed second after clocking a time of 13 minutes, 2.72 seconds.

Deveanx won a pair of races at the 200 yard distance. She captured the 200 freestyle in a time of two minutes, 6.45 seconds, while dominating the field in the 200 IM (2:23.85).

Leanues was the first swimmer to touch up in the 50-yard backstroke, defeating her opponents with a time of 32.93 seconds. She also bested the field in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of one minute, 11.67 seconds.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 6 p.m. on Nov. 4, when the Corsairs host Bridgewater State University.
