Box Score FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team opened Little East Conference play with its first shut out of the 2014 season, defeating Framingham State University on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.
The Corsairs improve their overall record to 2-5 and start 1-0 amongst conference opponents, while Framingham State slips to 2-2 and 1-0 in the LEC.
Junior Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.), the UMass Dartmouth leader in goals scored (5) and points (11), gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the opening half when she beat the goaltender on a rebound attempt in the 10th minute. Freshman Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) tallied her first assist of the year on the play. In the first half, the Corsairs outshot the Rams (10-1) and held a significant advantage in penalty corner attempts (9-1).
In the second stanza, sophomore Hunter Carden (Branford, Conn.) registered her first points of the season when she successfully converted a penalty stroke to increase UMass Dartmouth's advantage to two goals.
Sophomore Elizabeth St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.) earned her first win in net for the Corsairs, while Rosemary Talbot turned away nine shots in 70 minutes of action for Framingham State.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Tuesday, Sep. 16, when the Corsairs travel to Clark for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
