Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth freshman Delaney Burns (Wayne, N.J.) scored her first collegiate goal to lead the field hockey team to a 3-0 road victory this evening at Clark University (Mass.).
The Corsairs captured their second-straight shutout to improve to 3-4, while the Cougars dropped to 3-2 on the campaign.
UMass Dartmouth scored a pair of goals less than 10 minutes apart in the first half to provide all the offense they would need. Burns cracked the scoring column in the 10th minute, when she delivered the eventual game-winner. Junior Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.) doubled the visitors lead at the 17:12 mark, when she finished a feed from classmate Heather Fatcheric (Princeton, Mass.) to send the Corsairs into the halftime intermission.
Junior Ali Ladue (Bridgewater, Mass.) rounded out the scoring in the 50th minute, converting a feed from freshman Katie Tighe (Easton, Mass.).
In between the pipes, sophomore Elizabeth St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.) made three saves to raise her shutout streak to 140 minutes. Olivia Landry (Vestal, N.Y.) made a career-best 10 stops for the Scarlet and White before giving way to Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.), who made three stops in her 10 minutes of action.
The Corsairs held a 16-3 lead in shots and a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, when the Corsairs conclude their season-opening eight-match road trip at Little East Conference foe Westfield State University (2-2, 0-1 LEC).
