Ogrizovich and Trotta Power Colonials Past Corsairs

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Two second half goals from junior Caitlin Ogrizovich (New Fairfield, Conn.), including the game-winner, lifted Western Connecticut State University to its second Little East Conference victory of the season, defeating the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Ogrizovich, the Western Connecticut leading goal scorer, sealed the win for the Colonials when she put home a wide shot attempt from teammate Tatum Seaver (North Haven, Conn.) with two minutes, 41 seconds remaining in regulation. Earlier in the second half, Ogrizovich tied the game at one-all when she batted in a pass attempt from junior Kristy Matasavage (Middlebury, Conn.) off a corner attempt.

The Corsairs struck first when sophomore Katelin Morrissey (Taunton, Mass.) connected with a cutting Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.) in the 45th minute. Levrault registered her team-leading seventh marker of the season, while Morrissey recorded her second assist on the year.

Sophomore Kristy Trotta (Danbury, Conn.) put together a stellar performance in net for Western Connecticut, turning away 21 of the 22 shot attempts she faced. Trotta increased her save total buy one-third, from 63 to 84. For UMass Dartmouth, sophomore Elizabeth St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.) stopped seven shots in 70 minutes of action.

The Corsairs had plenty of scoring opportunities, holding an advantage in shots (25-14) and in penalty corner attempts (15-6).

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 1, when the Corsairs host Worcester State in a 7 p.m. in a Little East Conference matchup at Cressy Field.
