Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Endicott College senior Jed Magnusson (Kingston, N.H.) scored a pair of goals after the halftime intermission, including the game-winner in the 96th minute, as the Gulls rallied for a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this evening in a NCAA Division III men's soccer match at Cressy Field.
The visitors created the golden scoring opportunity off a corner kick from the left flag. The Corsairs' defensive backfield cleared the initial threat, but Endicott quickly countered with a pass towards the left flank. Sophomore Brion Likaj (Salem, Mass.) sent a cross into the 18-yard box that junior Diego Slobotzky (Mexico City, Mexico) flicked backward. UMass Dartmouth halted in anticipation of a whistle, while the charging Magnusson netted the game-winner from the right side of the 18-yard box.
UMass Dartmouth appeared to be on its way to its fourth win of the season, jumping out to a 2-0 advantage in the 54th minute. Junior Troy Martins (Attleboro, Mass.) registered his first marker of the season, converting a feed from classmate Corey Morris (Freehold, N.J.).
The Gulls came roaring back to level the ledger at 2-all, scoring two goals in the span of three minutes, 16 seconds. Endicott cracked the scoring column off a corner kick, when Slobotzky fired a shot into a pack of Corsair defenders, and the loose ball caromed back out to Magnusson, who ripped a one-timer from 20-yards out. The Gulls drew even when junior Kyle Bisceglia (New Boston, N.H.) intercepted a clearing pass near the midfield stripe and threaded a thru pass onto Likaj's foot. The midfielder chipped the equalizer over the hosts' keeper to even the score and eventually force the extra session.
Sophomore Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) made six saves in 95 minutes, 14 seconds of action, while senior Alex Jorge (Billerica, Mass.) stopped five attempts to earn the win.
Endicott held 19-11 advantage in shots, including a 15-6 edge after halftime, while both teams earned three corner kicks apiece.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at noon on Oct. 4, when the Corsairs travel to Southern Maine for a Little East Conference contest.
