Swimming & Diving Teams Split with University of New England

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth swimming and diving teams split on Saturday, with the men earning a win, 199-22, and the women a loss, 159-97, to the University of New England on Saturday at the Tripp Center Natatorium.

The men, who competed against UNE's club team, saw several swimmers earn multiple event wins as the Corsairs took every event. Freshman Austin Harris (Cranston, R.I.) earned the most medals to his name, taking home a trio of individual wins. Harris tripped the timer at 1:01.18 in the 100-yard butterfly, and finished in 51.59 in the 100-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard IM, Harris finished in 2:20.17.

Junior captain Grayham Ronan (Millis, Mass.) claimed victory in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the time in 5:30.80, and the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 23.29.

Sophomore Derek Marshall also picked up two wins, first in the 50-yard backstroke (27.61) and again in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.36).

In the women's meet, Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.) led the Corsairs, claiming three wins. The sophomore opened the day with a 5:44.84 swim in the 500-yard freestyle, and followed with a time of 58.76 in the 100-yard free. She closed the day in the 200-yard IM, winning in 2:24.86.

Junior Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.) posted yet another strong performance, claiming victory in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.28) and the 1,000-yard free (11:46.38).

Next up for both teams is a weekday meet, as the Corsairs will make the short trip to Bridgewater State for a dual meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
