4th Quarter Surge Leads Fightin Scots Past Corsairs

WENHAM, Mass. – Gordon College outscored the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 3-0 in the fourth quarter to earn a 10-6 victory over the Corsairs in their season-opener this afternoon in a NCAA Division III men's lacrosse contest.

Freshman DJ Miller (Ashland, Mass.) paced UMass Dartmouth with three points, on two goals and an assist.  Junior Zach Drolette (Burlington, Vt.) turned in a balanced performance with a marker and a helper, while juniors Tyler Prentice (Chelmsford, Mass.), Connor Gaffney (Andover, Mass.) and Alex Lucas (Brookfield, Mass.) each found the back of the net.

Sophomore Matt Lafond (Bridgewater, Mass.) made his first collegiate start in net, making 10 saves in 60 minutes of action.

Gordon (1-2) held a 31-27 advantage in shots and a 35-29 lead in groundballs.  The Fightin Scots went 3-for-5 with the extra attacker, while the Corsairs converted one of their five attempts.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, when the Corsairs travel to Wheaton College.  The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 4 in Dartmouth, but Cressy Field is currently unplayable.
