GM 1: UMass Dartmouth 6, Salem State 3
Off two hits in the top of the first inning, UMass Dartmouth took an early 1-0 lead off an Abby Tremblay (New Bedford, Mass.) single that scored Emily Colton (Kingston, Mass.) from third. The Vikings answered back right away as a Molly McLean (Arlington, Mass.) RBI-single brought in Marisa Sanchez (Framingham, Mass.) to knot the score at 1-1. Megan Black (Winchendon, Mass.) kept the Corsairs scoreless for the next three innings, which allowed the Vikings' offense a chance to gain the lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Katie Doherty (Tewksbury, Mass.) drove a sacrifice fly out to deep left field that scored Desiree Moreno (Ashburnham, Mass.) to give Salem State a 2-1 edge.
However, the UMass Dartmouth bats were awaken in the top of the fifth as they piled up three runs off four hits including a Rachel Carey (Holbrook, Mass.) double that drove in Colton and Adi Alicea-Cordero (Dorchester, Mass.). Trailing 4-2, Salem State stole a run back as Jen Crovo (Melrose, Mass.) scored on a pass ball to cut the Corsairs lead to 4-3. After a scoreless sixth, UMass Dartmouth extended their lead in the top of the seventh inning, with two RBI-singles from Amanda McHugh (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Mary Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.).
With one last chance in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Vikings failed to score any runs as Marissa Spinuzzi (Fair Lawn, N.J.) earned a save as she shut out the Salem State batters to secure a 6-3 victory.
Pieroni (2-1) earned the win after working four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) off five hits. Spinnuzi finished the final three innings where she allowed one run (no earned) off four hits. Black (3-5) drew the loss as she threw four innings and gave up four runs off eight hits. Francesca Perault (Everett, MA) closed the final two innings for the Vikings as she allowed two runs off three hits.
GM 2: Salem State 5, UMass Dartmouth 2
Salem State got to work quickly in game two as they tallied three runs in the bottom of the first with the help of Rebecca Krigman (Malden, Mass.), who drove in two runs with a single as the Vikings jump out to a 3-0 lead. Salem State added to their lead in the bottom of the third as they scored two more runs, which included Corsairs pitcher Hannah Smith (Attleboro, Mass.) walking Sanchez with the bases loaded.
UMass Dartmouth cut the margin to 5-2 in the top of the sixth inning with back-to-back triples by Colton and Carey. Also in the inning, Carey scored on a wild pitch, but that would be the last Corsairs' run as Perrault closed out UMass in the seventh inning.
After losing game one, Black (4-5) picked up the win in game two as she pitched two innings where she allowed two runs off three hits. Spinuzzi (0-1) earned the loss after allowing three runs in one inning of work.
