UMass Boston's Firepower Too Much for Volleyball

Box Score

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Corsairs rebounded to play even volleyball with UMass Boston at several points during the final two sets, but the Beacons' firepower proved too much on Tuesday evening as the visitors upended the Corsairs 3-0 in Little East Conference play.

The Basics

Score: UMass Boston 3, UMass Dartmouth 0
Records:
UMass Boston (14-3, 4-0 LEC) | UMass Dartmouth (6-11, 0-3 LEC)

How it Happened

After UMass Dartmouth mustered just five kills in the first set to drop a 25-13 decision to the hard-hitting Beacons, the Corsairs caught up to speed at certain points in the second set. After going down 4-0 to start, four Beacon errors and two kills from senior Kayla Kirby (Westport, Mass.) tied the score at six. With the score at 21-12 later in the set, the hosts then used four straight points off Meghan Mullinax's (Lake Balboa, Calif.) serve to take four straight points, but UMass Boston's Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) served her team to the final three points and a 25-18 margin

In the third, several Beacon errors during Kirby's serve cut the UMass Boston lead to 15-10, and two points later freshmen Anita Sengara (Vancouver, B.C.) and Taila Roberson (Norwalk, Conn.) combined for three-straight kills, forcing the only UMass Boston timeout of the night.

Off the break, sophomore Emily West (Holyoke, Mass.) registered another kill, but the Beacons found their rhythm again, securing eight of the last 10 points and wrap up a 25-16 set.
