UMass Dartmouth Swimming & Diving Squads Sail Past Elms College

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Both UMass Dartmouth Swimming & Diving squads combined to win 24 out of the 28 contested events, with the Corsair women winning all of races as both teams flew past Elms College on the road on Saturday.

How it Happened

The women kicked off the event, claiming the 200m medley relay. The grouping of Brienna Harrison (Lakeville, Mass.) Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.), Kaya Flanagan (Fairhaven, Mass.), and Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.) won the event by nearly five seconds.  Yulyssa Diaz (Dorchester, Mass.) then took the 800m freestyle to set the lasting tone throughout the day. 

David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) got the men rolling with a first-place finish in the 200m freestyle, right after Deveaux won the same women's event. Troy Sjahfieden (Mattapoisett, Mass.) was the next top men's swimmer beyond Adamski, winning the 50m breaststroke by 1.2 seconds and later claiming the 100m version in 1:17.09. In addition, Devin Farnsworth (Leominster, Mass.) picked up a pair of wins, first in the 100-meter butterfly and then the 50m version by over two seconds. 

Freshman Carly Cahill (Charlestown, Mass.) was a two-time winner for the women against the Blazers. She took the 50m breaststroke in 38.87, and later the 100m variety in 1:28.27.

Murphy, Flanagan, Deveaux, and Adamski won in every single event they competed in, winning a combined 13 of the 28 events. To wrap up the meet, the Corsairs went on to win nine of the final ten races on the afternoon.

The women's squad will host Westfield State in two weeks on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. The men stick to the road as they compete in the Colby-Sawyer Invitational Dec. 2-3.
