Lancers Strike Twice to Shut Out Field Hockey

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – A pair of goals by Worcester State sophomore Michaila Parent (Westborough, Mass.) were enough to propel the Lancers past UMass Dartmouth Field Hockey in Little East Conference competition on Tuesday evening.

Records: Worcester State (4-3, 3-0 LEC), UMass Dartmouth (2-5, 1-3 LEC)

How it Happened

With the first half winding down, Worcester State finally broke the scoreless tie in the 34' minute of play. Senior Morgan Cooper (Fitchburg, Mass.) sprung Parent from the Corsairs' back line as she broke free to bury the breakaway goal into the bottom left corner of the cage.

Parent struck again on the other side of the halftime break, as she once again sped away from the Corsairs defense to pot her second goal of the game at the 37-minute marker.

Despite being down on the scoreboard, the Corsairs' offense kept firing. UMass Dartmouth had their chances in the late moments of the contest, registering seven shots in the last five minutes of play

Junior Haley Donahay (Cranston, R.I.) kept the Corsairs within striking distance in the waning moments of the game, making a key defensive save before an Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) shot bounced off the post, but Worcester State was able to hold the shutout.
