Men's Lacrosse Earns Key 11-5 Little East Victory Over Eastern Connecticut

Box Score

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Junior Donovan Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) scored six goals and added an assist for seven points to lead UMass Dartmouth to an 11-5 Little East Conference men's lacrosse victory over Eastern Connecticut Tuesday evening at Cressy Field.

The host Corsairs (7-8, 4-3 LEC) scored twice in the opening 1:28 of play to take early control of the contest, as Prozinski netted three goals in the final 9:18 of the first half to help stake his squad to a 6-4 advantage at the break.  The visiting Warriors (5-8, 2-4 LEC) crept back to within one midway through the third stanza on junior Jacob Testa's (Southington, Conn.) tally, but that would prove to be Eastern Connecticut's last goal of the night, as Prozinski added three more second half scores (including a man-up marker with 4:23 remaining) to help account for the final margin.

Sophomore Tim Jordan (Sandwich, Mass.) collected two goals (including a man-up tally) in the win for UMass Dartmouth, which received a marker and helper from junior Mike Rizzo (Bridgewater, Mass.) along with an opening goal from freshman Jake Coombes (Chelmsford, Mass.).  Sophomore Sawyer Gibbons (Sandwich, Mass.) enjoyed a big night in the middle after netting a goal and winning 11 of 19 face offs for the Corsairs, who received three assists from freshman Kevin Swenson (Ipswich, Mass.).  Freshman Alexi Fauzey (Charlestown, R.I.) chipped in with a pair of helpers as well for the winners, who received an assist off the stick of freshman Griffin Wiencek (Sherwood, Ore.).

Senior Matthew Rougeot (Cheshire, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the setback for the Warriors, who received a marker and helper each from Testa and sophomore Kyle Cardoza (Waterford, Conn.) along with a tally from junior Anthony Choronzy (Clinton, Conn.).  The victory was just the third for UMass Dartmouth in 27 all-time series meetings with Eastern Connecticut, as the Corsairs moved into fourth place in the Little East standings by virtue of Southern Maine's 13-7 home setback to UMass Boston.

Junior Ted McCaffery (Pepperell, Mass.) picked up his seventh win of the year in goal with a nine-save effort for UMass Dartmouth, while junior Jack Farrell (Stratford, Conn.) made 14 stops in the setback for Eastern Connecticut.  The Corsairs outshot the Warriors by a 38-25 margin (25-14 on goal) for the contest, as each squad committed 18 turnovers.

UMass Dartmouth hosts Plymouth State in a Little East Conference clash on Friday evening at Cressy Field beginning at 7:00 pm, while Eastern Connecticut travels to Salem, Mass. on Friday afternoon to tangle with Salem State in a Little East match that begins at 4:00 pm.
