WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- Freshman Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India) and sophomore Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) each posted wins in singles and doubles play, as top-seeded UMass Boston posted a 5-0 victory over fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth in semifinal round action of the 2019 Little East Conference Men's Tennis Championships Friday afternoon at the Weymouth Tennis Club.
The host Beacons, who improve to 12-5 overall, will take on second-seeded Salem State for the 2019 Little East title and a berth in the NCAA Division III Championships Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm, while the visiting Corsairs complete their season at 8-11 overall.
UMass Boston swept all three doubles contests to take the early advantage, as Shah teamed up with sophomore Miguel Beltran (Ashland, Mass.) for an 8-5 win at number one doubles while Comerchero and junior Onkgopotse Mokoka (Pretoria, South Africa) claimed an 8-0 triumph at the number three spot. The brother combination of senior Ray and freshman Roy Plateel (Holbrook, Mass.) took an 8-6 win at the number two doubles position for the Beacons, who received straight set triumphs from Shah and Comerchero in singles play at number one and four to advance.
UMass Dartmouth made its ninth straight appearance in the Little East semifinals with today's setback, as the Corsairs have won eight or more dual-matches in the last three seasons under Head Coach Karsten Rathlev.
