DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Both UMass Dartmouth swimming & diving teams gained splits of a tri-meet on Wednesday evening at the Tripp Natatorium, as the Corsairs posted respective 202-56 (men) and 180-62 (women) triumphs over Western Connecticut while dropping 196-95 (men) and 163-90 (women) decisions to Keene State.
Sophomore Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) was victorious in the 200 yard backstroke (2:23.76) while adding runner-up finishes in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.96) and 200 yard individual medley (2:30.89) on the women's side for UMass Dartmouth (3-6), which received a first place performance in the 200 yard butterfly (2:30.60) and a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.10) from freshman Morgan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.). Senior Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.) and junior Brianna Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) added respective runner-up performances in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.38) and 200 yard butterfly (2:41.97) for the hosts, who received a trio of third place finishes in the 100 (1:17.55) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:46.56) as well as the 200 yard freestyle (2:11.95) from senior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.).
Freshmen Danielle Klash (Gardner, Mass.) and Katherine Ferri (Springfield, Mass.) added third place performances in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:09.80) and 100 yard butterfly (1:09.61) for UMass Dartmouth, which saw the tandem of Klash, Ferri, senior Alissa Hall (Westboro, Mass.) and junior Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.) claim the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:12.00. The Corsair quartet of Kovach, Murphy, Beebe and Lovy also recorded a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.91.
Junior Noah Yeskewicz (Middleboro, Mass.) led the way on the men's side with a triumph in the 100 yard butterfly (57.23) for UMass Dartmouth (3-5), which received respective runner-up finishes in the 200 yard butterfly from senior Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.) and three meter diving (214.50) from junior Dodhy Saint-Amand (Brockton, Mass.). Senior Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) was second in the 100 (51.99) and third in the 500 yard freestyle (5:16.43) for the Corsairs, who received second (1:05.70) and third place (2:24.54) finishes in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke from junior Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.).
Sophomore Nathan Motisi (Ellington, Conn.) added second (5:14.84) and third place (10:48.42) performances in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle for the hosts, who received a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.05) and a third place performance in the 50 yard freestyle (24.51) from freshman Devon Foster (Northbridge, Mass.). Sophomore Eric Worden (Portland, Maine) and freshman James Shaw (North Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded respective third place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:58.18) and 200 yard butterfly (2:15.40) for UMass Dartmouth, which saw the tandem of Foster, Chung, Yeskewicz and Worden finish second in the 200 yard medley relay (1:47.22). The quartet of MacKenzie, Shaw, Motisi and Barrett added a runner-up performance in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:33.57) as well for the Corsairs.
Both UMass Dartmouth squads will be idle until Saturday, January 25th when the Corsairs entertain Plymouth State in dual-meet action at the Tripp Natatorium beginning at 1:00 pm.
