DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) captured a pair of individual events and added a second place performance in a third, as UMass Dartmouth posted a 162-107 victory over Plymouth State in a college women's swimming dual-meet Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Natatorium.
Kovach took top honors in the 50 yard backstroke (31.31) and 100 yard individual medley (1:08.03) while adding a runner-up finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:09.73) for the host Corsairs (4-6), who also received first place performances in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:17.80) and 1,000 yard freestyle (12:01.89) from senior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.). Freshman Danielle Klash (Gardner, Mass.) earned top honors in both the 200 (2:10.07) and 500 yard freestyle (5:48.31) for UMass Dartmouth, which received a first place finish in the 50 yard breaststroke (37.55) from junior Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.).
Senior Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.) claimed the top spot in the 100 yard freestyle (1:01.70) and added a runner-up finish in the 50 yard freestyle (28.55) on the day for the Corsairs, who also collected respective second place performances in the 50 (30.88) and 100 yard butterfly (1:08.90) from freshmen Katherine Ferri (Springfield, Mass.) and Aubrey Endress (Belchertown, Mass.). UMass Dartmouth also claimed wins in both relay events in the competition, as the quartet of Kovach, Murphy, Lovy and freshman Morgan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.) posted a time of 4:30.59 in the 400 yard medley relay while the tandem of Murphy, Klash, Ferri and sophomore Olivia Barnes (Springfield, Mass.) took top honors in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:53.42).
UMass Dartmouth will host the 2020 Little East Conference Championships next Saturday, February 1st at the Tripp Natatorium beginning at Noon.
