Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. -- Junior Kylie Fletcher (Dighton, Mass.) and sophomore Lindsay Chubbuck (Berkley, Mass.) each rapped out run-scoring extra base hits, as UMass Dartmouth swept a pair of non-league college softball decisions from Millsaps and Westfield State by respective finals of 6-4 and 9-1 at the PFX Spring Games Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Steph Nosky (Norton, Mass.) gave the Corsairs (4-4) a 1-0 first inning lead against Millsaps with a steal of home, and Chubbuck cleared the bases with a three-run double in the third to extend that margin to 4-0. Nosky added a fourth inning fielder's choice RBI to close out UMass Dartmouth's scoring, as the Majors (11-8) scored twice in the fourth and crept to within one with a two-run seventh inning rally but left a pair of runners on base in the final frame.
Fletcher and junior Leah Major (Fairhaven, Mass.) added hits in the lid-lifter to support junior Jill Richards (Kingston, Mass.), as she fanned five over the first five innings of work to pick up the win for the Corsairs. Senior Annika Evensen (Lake Forest, Calif.) worked the final two frames to earn the save for UMass Dartmouth, as she struck out three and escaped the seventh inning Millsaps rally.
Fletcher sparked a four-run first inning uprising in the nightcap against Westfield State (0-5) with a two-run triple, and a fielder's choice from Chubbuck followed by sophomore Averi Soares' (New Bedford, Mass.) RBI double capped the rally. The Owls plated their lone tally in the second on a wild pitch, and a pair of errors that sandwiched Major's fifth inning two-run triple capped the scoring in the six inning affair. Fletcher paced an eight hit attack with two hits in the second outing for UMass Dartmouth, as sophomore Anna Kerwood (Florence, Mass.) went the distance to earn her second win of the season inside the circle for the Corsairs by scattering six hits and fanning four.
UMass Dartmouth continues play at the PFX Spring Games on Wednesday morning by taking on Webster and Washington & Jefferson beginning at 11:15 am.
