WestConn Marches Past Corsairs

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – WestConn junior Myah Croze scored two goals and added an assist to lead the nationally-ranked Colonials to a 6-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Saturday afternoon in a Little East Conference women's soccer match on Cressy Field.
 
WestConn (14-0, 7-0 LEC), ranked No. 24 in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll, featured a potent offensive attack with a 26-3 advantage in shots and 11-1 edge in corner kicks. 

Croze, the Division III leader in goals, registered her seventh match with at least two scores this season to pace the Colonials. Senior Marysia Slowik penned a marker and a helper in her ledger for three points, while freshman Suzana Imetovski and classmate Adriana Alfano each netted a goal.   
 
The visitors received a fortune break in the 21st minute to open the scoring, when sophomore Hannah Daly lofted in a corner kick to the far post. UMassD's goalkeeper tried to punch out the pass, but the rebound deflected off a Corsair defender and across the goal line. Croze registered her first marker of the match in the 25th minute, when she cut back inside the 18-yard box to allude a defender and ripped her 21st goal inside the near post. The Colonials continued to apply the offensive pressure as Slowik finished a feed from freshman Kyla Norton and Croze to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage heading into the halftime intermission.
 
WestConn struck just 29 seconds into the second stanza to push the visitors lead to 4-0. The Colonials created the scoring opportunity when junior Skylar Jorge and Daly worked a give-and-go along the right flank. Daly sent a crossing pass into the box that Croze one-timed inside the near post. The visitors capped their scoring with a pair of insurance goals less than 90 seconds apart halftime through the second half.      
 
WestConn senior Karly Martin didn't have to make a save in 50 minutes, 13 seconds of action to earn the victory. Junior Kristen Roessler registered two stops over the final 39 minutes, 47 seconds of regulation. Junior Kat Hubbard played all 90 minutes in net for the Corsairs and recorded seven saves.
 
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7pm on Thursday, October 19, when the Corsairs travel to Westfield State University.
