Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Morales' PK Goal is the Difference in 1-0 Victory at Southern Maine

It was the second game-winning goal for Morales this season

GORHAM, Maine – Senior midfielder Rony Morales sent home a penalty kick in the 55th minute to power the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to a 1-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon in a Little East Conference (LEC) men's soccer match on Hannaford Field.

The Corsairs (5-2-1, 2-1 LEC) created the decisive scoring opportunity, when Morales was tripped inside the top of the 18-yard box while chasing down a blocked shot. The senior from Seekonk, Mass. stepped to the dot and tucked his second game-winning goal of the campaign inside the lower, right corner, to give the visitors an advantage they wouldn't relinquish.

UMass Dartmouth nearly doubled its advantage in the 84th minute, when freshman Cameron Jacob broke in behind the Southern Maine (4-5-1, 0-4 LEC) defensive third. The Husky keeper came off his line and thwarted Jacob's attempt.

Senior Jake Castro played all 90 minutes in net and registered one save to earn the victory, while junior Jacob Statires made four stops for the Huskies.

UMass Dartmouth held 10-5 advantage in shots, while Southern Maine earned seven of the 11 corner kicks.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, when the Corsairs travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
