DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â It was the home opener for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team on Saturday, and it was Western New England edging the Corsairs, 86-84.
Freshman
Anya Wallace had a strong day in the long events winning the 1000-yard freestyle (12:53.15) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:19.26).
Freshman
Piper Dienst was successful as well, taking home the victory in the the 100-yard individual medley (1:12.81) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.38).
Victorious in the 100-yard breakstroke was sophomore
Rachel Kerrigan (1:26.31). Kerrigan also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:24.71).
Winning the 100-yard freestyle was senior
Olivia Shaw (1:05.76), while sophomore
Natalia Agrelo came in third (1:10.82) and classmate
Melia Bouramia finished fourth (1:10.94). Shaw came in second in the 50-yard freestyle as well (28.88).
UMass Dartmouth's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Shaw, Wallace, Kerrigan and Dienst finished with a time of 1:55.12.
The Corsairs are back in the pool for a home meet on Saturday, Nov. 6 at noon against Rhode Island College.
