UMass Dartmouth Drops Evenly-Matched Contest at WestConn

WestConn netted the game winner in the second quarter

DANBURY, Conn. - A second-quarter goal was all it took for WestConn to secure a crucial, 1-0, Little East Conference (LEC) victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Wednesday night in Danbury.

It was an evenly-matched game. The Corsairs (3-8, 2-3 LEC) finished the night with eight shots, five on goal, and five penalty corners, while WestConn (4-5, 3-3 LEC) came away with 12 shots, six on goal, and six corners.

Freshman goalkeeper Alyssa McDonough recorded five saves on the night.

After neither side had a shot attempt in the first quarter, junior Mya Amaral fired the first two of the game, her first was blocked and the second was saved. WestConn scored the deciding goal with 9:55 on the clock in the second quarter when freshman Regiane Silva sent home her first career goal.

Graduate student Mikella DaSilva, 5th-year senior Brittany Perry, and seniors Kylie Dias and Lydia Stormwind all had a shot on goal, but each was turned away by the WestConn keeper to preserve the shutout.

UMass Dartmouth is home on Saturday for Blue & Gold Weekend for a non-conference game against Framingham State at 11 a.m.
