Two Third-Period Goals Result in 3-3 Draw Against Westfield State

Graduate student Dillon Radin scored the game-tying goal

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth hockey team erased a two-goal deficit in the third period to finish with a 3-3 draw against Westfield State to earn a hard-fought point in the MASCAC standings Saturday night.

Scoring for the Corsairs (6-4-1) were graduate student Melker Kroon in the second period, while junior Michael Perrone and Radin's goals were in the third.

Finding the back of the net for the Owls (4-4-2) were senior John-Michael DiGregorio,  junior Joseph Carbone and senior Jake Ratcliffe.

After a scoreless first period, Westfield notched two quick goals. DiGregorio first scored at 13:56 from senior Paul Frys and Ratcliffe, then Carbone lit the lamp at 14:44 from senior Wyatt Lawrence and junior Mathieu Jones. Kroon made it a 2-1 deficit less than a minute later at the 15:29 mark of the second from senior Blake Harlow and sophomore Dominic Dumas. Ratcliffe netted his goal at 18:46 off assists from Frys and junior Andrew McCormick to make it a 3-1 advantage heading to the third.

With work ahead of them, UMass Dartmouth made it a one-goal game just 2:18 into the third when Perrone scored from seniors Jimmy Pelton and Derek Britner. A last-minute power-play opportunity gave the Corsairs a chance and Radin took full advantage to even the score at three with just over two minutes remaining. 5th-year senior Kai Kapossy and Perrone were credited with assists.

UMass Dartmouth outshot Westfield, 6-3, in overtime but neither team was able to score as both sides collected a point in the standings.

The Corsairs are back on the ice on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at home against Anna Maria.
