DARTMOUTH, Mass.— University of Massachusetts Dartmouth first-year
Devon Laing (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) registered 18 kills and 10 digs to power the Corsairs to a 3-0 victory over homestanding Rhode Island College this evening in a Little East Conference volleyball match at the Murray Center. The Corsairs cruised in all three sets, winning 25-16, 25-18, and 25-16.
UMass Dartmouth earned its second consecutive straight set win to improve to 2-0 on the campaign, while Rhode Island College is still searching for its first victory at 0-4.
Laing was the focal point of the Corsairs offensive attack tonight, recording 18 kills on 28 total swings and just two errors for a .571 hitting percentage. She also contributed a service ace and 10 digs. Sophomore
Courtney Carreiro (Dartmouth, Mass.) piloted the offense with 29 assists, while first-year
Marley Alexander (Ashburn, Va.) added five winners. Sophomore
Vanessa Barreto (Natick, Mass.) also reached double digits in digs with a team-high 13.
Junior Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the Anchorwomen with eight kills, five digs, and three blocks. Classmate Wynter Conlon (East Walpole, Mass.) handed out 18 assists and posted seven digs.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 1pm on Sunday, April 18, when the Corsairs travel to Eastern Connecticut State University for a Little East Conference match.
