DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Freshman
Devon Laing (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) started her career as a University of Massachusetts Corsair with a bang, leading the team with nine kills and eight aces on the way to UMassD's first win of the spring season. The Corsairs outscored the Castleton Spartans 25-15, 25-11, and 25-7 in the three-set sweep.
It was a great night for the rookies, fellow freshman Gabriella Monico (Milford, N.H) and
Marley Alexander (Ashburn, Va.) cominged for 15 kills and six aces on the evening. Sophomore setter
Courtney Carreiro (Dartmouth, Mass.) sparked the Corsairs attack, notching 21 assists. Alexander and Monico also had an impressive night on the net, combining for five blocks.
The Spartans offense was led by junior Jessica Trudeau (South Glens Falls, N.Y.), grabbing six kills for the visiting side. Junior Madison Hamelink (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Lizzie Goodrich (Essex Junction, V.T.) combined for an additional seven Spartan kills.
The Corsairs will return to action Thursday, April 15
