PLYMOUTH, Mass.- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth split a set of Little East Conference contests at Plymouth State University. The Corsairs took game one 7-1, but fell 7-4 in game two.
GAME 1 | UMassD 7, Plymouth State 1
The Corsairs found the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when an RBI single from freshman
Dyonna Rodas (Warwick, R.I.) brought sophomore
Lynsie Miracle (Richland, Wash.) home. UMassD doubled their lead in the top of the sixth. Senior
Kylie Fletcher (Dighton, Mass.) tripled to right center to start the inning and came home when classmate
Jill Richards (Kingston, Mass.) reached on an error.
With a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh, the Corsairs tacked on plenty of insurances runs. Sophomore
Sky Berube (Dartmouth, Mass.) kicked things off with a single to the shortstop. Rodas kept things going with a single to left field. Senior
Leah Major (Fairhaven, Mass.) singled to right center, bringing in sophomore pinch runner
Marisa Minore (Brandford, Conn.). Fletcher drove in Major and came home on a single from Richards up the middle. The final run of the game came as Richards crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Richards continued her win streak from the circle, improving to 5-0 in her last five starts. The Kingston native struck out three in her six-inning outing. Freshman
Abby Bedient (Windham, N.H.) pitched an inning of relief, posting her first save of the season.
GAME 2 | Plymouth State 7, UMassD 4
Plymouth State struck first, sophomore Sam McCann (Berlin, N.H.) gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead on a single to right. The Corsairs cut the lead in half as Richards crossed the plate in the top of the fourth. UMassD evened the score on a sacrifice fly from Rodas that brought Miracle home. The Corsairs took the lead as Major drove in Berube.
The Panthers quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back RBI triples. Plymouth State increased their lead in the home half of the sixth inning, going up 7-3. UMassD added another run on a RBI double from Berube, but couldn't complete the seventh inning comeback.
Richards returned to the circle to start game two, allowing just two hits and striking out two in three innings pitched. Freshman
Kaitlyn Shirshac (Enfield, Conn.) pitched the remainder of the game, taking the loss for the Corsairs. Freshman Alexis Michon (Monteville, Conn.) earned the complete-game win for the Panthers.
