UMass Dartmouth Falls at Keene State in LEC Opener

KEENE, N.H. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team fell, 6-2, at Keene State, to open its Little East Conference schedule Saturday afternoon at the Owl Athletic Complex.

Junior Mya Amaral and fifth-year senior Brittany Perry tallied goals for the Corsairs (1-4, 0-1 LEC). For the Owls (1-4, 1-0 LEC), junior Ellie Hunkins scored first, while the freshmen duo of Hannah Wood and Irini Stefanakos combined for five goals.

Keene State outshot the Corsairs 6-0 in the first quarter. The Owls capitalized on their fourth shot of the day at the 10:10 mark when Hunkins scored to take a 1-0 lead after the first.

The Owls scored four goals in a three-minute span in the second to take a 5-0 advantage into halftime. The goals came at 21:05, 22:17, 22:43, and 23:58.

Amaral found the back of the cage on the Corsairs' third shot of the third quarter, and Perry scored just six minutes into the fourth to trim the deficit to 5-2. Keene State's Stefanakos added one more to the Owls' total to finish things off.

The Corsairs are home on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to take on Roger Williams.
