Panthers Edge Corsairs in OT, 3-2

Kaitlyn Bernier and Sarah Vieira scored for the Corsairs

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Senior Jordan Meier scored 38 seconds into the second overtime session to lift Plymouth State University to a 3-2 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Arold Field. The Panthers forced OT by netting the equalizer with just 22 seconds remaining in regulation.

Plymouth State (4-1, 1-0 LEC) generated the decisive scoring opportunity off a Corsair goal kick. Meier utilized a spin move to control possession and shield her defender a few yards outside the 18-yard box.  Meier ripped her second marker of the season inside the lower, right post to cap off the dramatic comeback win.

Senior Kait Bernier and classmate Sarah Vieira led UMass Dartmouth's (1-3-1, 0-1 LEC) offensive attack with a goal and an assist each.

The Corsairs opened the scoring in the 20th minute as Vieira sent a pass from midfield over the top of the Plymouth State defense. Bernier ran onto the ball behind the Panther defensive third and slipped her third goal of the campaign inside the lower, right post. Plymouth State tied the match with 54 seconds left in the half, when senior Alexis Seta produced her first goal of the season.

UMass Dartmouth regained its advantage in the 76th minute, when Bernier and Vieira converted a give-and-go just inside the 18-yard box. Viera tucked her third goal of the season underneath the top right corner of the net.

Panther senior Cat Robbins stopped three attempts to earn the victory, while first-year Jess Costa registered eight saves for the Corsairs.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Monday when the Corsairs host Connecticut College in a non-conference match.
