DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â Rhode Island College came out on top, 2-1, in a hard-fought contest over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Wednesday night at Cressy Field.
The Corsairs (4-2-1, 1-1-0 LEC) finished with five shots and two on goal, while the Anchormen (6-2, 3-0 LEC) tallied 10 shots with two on net as well. It was an evenly matched contest as both teams came away with four corner kicks.
Freshman
Cameron Jacob scored his first-career goal for UMassD. Sending home goals for RIC were junior Luis Blanco and senior Jonathan Oliveira.
The Anchormen scored on the first shot of the night in the 18th minute when junior Brandon Ramos sent a cross to Blanco who made it a 1-0 game.
RIC extended its advantage to 2-0 in the 29th minute. AÂ Corsair foul in the goalie box led to a penalty kick for Oliveira who capitalized on his attempt.

It was a defensive battle for the remainder of the game, as RIC ran out the clock to hold off UMassD.
The Corsairs continue LEC play with a road game on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Southern Maine.
