Passaro Scores in 48th Minute to Boost Corsairs Over Salve Regina

UMass Dartmouth's defense withstood 19 shots by the Seahawks

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Freshman Lucas Passaro received a corner kick from junior John Aguiar and sent home the game-winning goal in the 48th minute to boost the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team over Salve Regina, 1-0, Wednesday night at Cressy Field.

The victory marks the first collegiate head coaching win for Head Coach Jason Burnett.

The Corsairs' (1-1) back line led by junior Nilin Nehra withstood 19 shots by the Seahawks (1-3). Senior Jake Castro and sophomore Jack Waterhouse split time in goal. Castro came away with three saves, while Waterhouse finished with one stop and was credited with the win.

Salve opened the match on the offensive. The Seahawks fired eight shots compared to three for the Corsairs in the first half.

UMassD took full advantage of its corner kick in the 48th minute. Aguiar's cross was off the fingertips of the Salve Regina goalkeeper, and found its way to the foot of Passaro, who knocked it home to give the Corsairs a 1-0 lead.

That score would stand as the UMassD defense had an answer for everything the Seahawks threw at them.

The Corsairs are on the road Saturday to take on Framingham State at 10 a.m.
