DARTMOUTH, Mass. – With only seven members of the team available Saturday afternoon, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team cruised to a 90-68 victory over Castleton at the Tripp Athletic Center.
The Corsairs (9-2, 2-1 LEC) were once again led by senior
Marcus Azor, who became the second Division III player this season to record two triple-doubles with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Senior
Adam Seablom led the scoring charge with 23 points and added five boards, while junior
Jackson Zancan finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. 5th-year senior
Jarron Santos registered 15 points and now sits at 998 for his career, which started at CCRI and Virginia State, and now UMass Dartmouth.
The Spartans (5-9, 0-5 LEC) had three players in double figures led by graduate student Oluwadare Sowunmi's 14 points.
Five points each from Seablom and Santos gave the Corsairs a 10-0 lead at the 17:08 mark and set the tone for the rest of the day. After Castleton was able to get on the board, Zancan scored consecutive baskets to start a 15-7 run that was capped off with a 3-pointer by graduate student
Jake Ashworth to make it a 25-9 advantage with 8:26 on the clock.
Azor drove and scored his second basket of the day and back-to-back threes by sophomore
Connor Campbell and Seablom extended the lead to 37-22. Azor scored four more points in the final minutes of the first, Seablom hit a 3-ball, and Zancan made a jumper to make it a 47-27 lead at the half.
Zancan nailed a corner three from Azor to start the second and Seablom kept it going with a steal and breakaway layup to maintain a 54-35 advantage with 14:58 to go. The Corsairs continued to dominate, putting together a 29-15 run over the next 10 minutes to go ahead, 83-50, with 5:09 left.
Needing two rebounds to record his triple-double, Azor grabbed an offensive board with 1:15 on the clock and pulled down his 10th on the defensive end with 36 seconds left to finish things off.
