WESTFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore Harley Hodge sent home her second goal of the season as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team fell at Westfield State, 3-1, in Little East Conference (LEC) action Tuesday night.
The Corsairs drop to 2-9 and 0-6 in the LEC, while the Owls improve to 7-6 and 4-3 in the conference.
Westfield got on the board first when junior Skyla Harthcock ran onto a long lead pass from classmate Emily Martin and scored at the 10:40 mark.
Trombly did her best to keep UMass Dartmouth in the game, making 11 saves in the first half to keep it a 1-0 deficit after the first 30 minutes.
The Owls added a second goal when Martin found Harthcock again with 34:29 on the clock to make it a 2-0 game.
UMass Dartmouth climbed on the scoreboard 1:52 into the fourth quarter on a penalty corner. Sophomore Jenna Carvalho's shot from the top was redirected by junior Maggie Doherty to Hodge, who slipped it behind the Westfield keeper, to trim the lead to 2-1.
Westfield added an insurance goal with nine and a half minutes to play as junior Molly Finnegan scored with just under 10 minutes remaining.
Trombly finished with 21 saves for the Corsairs, including stonewalling Westfield's junior Madison Oullette with a stick save on a penalty stroke in the second half.
