Corsairs Drop Road Contest to UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team came up short at UMass Boston, 2-0, Wednesday night on the road in Little East Conference (LEC) action.

The Corsairs fall to 3-9-1 and 1-4-0 in the LEC, while the Beacons improve to 4-7-2 and 2-3-0 in the conference.

It was a defensive battle in the early going with each side recording just one shot on goal through the first 24 minutes. Graduate student Kait Bernier looked to get the scoring started, firing two shots on net in the 25th and 26th minutes, but was turned away.

Moments after Bernier's second shot came, Umass Boston's freshman McKenna Hallinan fired home her third goal in the last seven days in the 26th minute from an assist by senior Kaylee Haynes.

Neither team would register a quality scoring chance in the remainder of the first half.

The defense continued to be the story of the second half with each team recording just three shots and one save. UMass Boston would extend their lead to two goals in the 63rd minute when a corner kick from junior Caleigh Sullivan found the head of junior Nour Chouiki, who knocked the ball into the back of the net to finish things off.

UMass Dartmouth is at Western Connecticut at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
