Late Goal Stuns Corsairs at Western Connecticut

Freshman Kaitlyn Duarte scored for the Corsairs

DANBURY, Conn. - Western Connecticut State University senior back Samantha Larkin scored the game-winning goal with 51 seconds remaining to lift the home team to a 2-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

The Corsairs drop to 3-10-1 and 1-5-0 in the Little East Conference (LEC), while the Wolves improve to 10-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the conference and extend their unbeaten streak to nine games.

UMass Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when freshman Kaitlyn Duarte drilled home a short pass in the middle from graduate student Kait Bernier. It was Duarte's second marker of the season.

WestConn answered back in the 20th minute when Larkin and junior Hannah Daly picked up assists on senior Julia DePalma's goal. Larkin's game winner was off a free kick from senior Myah Croze with 51 seconds left to close it out.

The Wolves finished with a slim edge, 16-14, in shots at goal and took all four of the game's corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Durkin turned away six shots including a pair of stellar scoring chances in the second half.

UMass Dartmouth takes on Westfield State at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
