Corsairs Come up Short at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team fell, 3-1, on the road to Bridgewater State Tuesday night.

The Corsairs fall to 0-9-5, while the the Bears improve to 4-7-2 on the season.

UMass Dartmouth opened the scoring in the tenth minute. Sophomore Lucas Passaro headed in a goal off a rebound from sophomore Cameron Jacob gave the Corsairs an early 1-0 advantage.

Bridgewater State junior Jacob Ramos headed one home from sophomore Nicolas Matias off a free kick in the 24th minute to knot the score at 1-1.

Moments later, senior Robson Montrond drew and converted a penalty kick in the 29th minute to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.

Junior Brayan Rivas Martinez had a chance to even the score again, but the Bridgewater State goalkeeper made a diving stop in the 30th minute to keep the score at 2-1 heading to halftime.

Bridgewater State's freshman midfielder Filippo Mucci converted off a free kick to give the Bears a two-goal cushion in the 81st minute off an assist from junior Joseph Kingara.

Bridgewater State held a slight 17-16 shot advantage for the game, while corner kick attempts were even at six apiece.

Junior Joey Paiva had a shot in the 57th minute that was denied with a diving save that would have tied the game at two at the time.

Junior goalkeeper Jack Waterhouse made six saves on the night.

UMass Dartmouth is on the road next against Castleton on Saturday for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
