DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team fell, 1-0, at home to Bridgewater State Wednesday at Cressy Field.
The Corsairs are now 2-12 and 0-9 in the Little East Conference (LEC), while Bridgewater State improves to 2-12 and 1-8 in the conference.
The first half between the two teams was competitive, as both sides showed their defensive dominance, not allowing a goal going into the break.
The contest remained scoreless until the 36:38 mark of the third quarter when Bridgewater State Junior Charlotte McElroy scored after a penalty corner assisted by junior Zoe Bergeron, which would be the game winner.
Despite not coming away with a victory, the Corsairs controlled the possession throughout the game. UMass Dartmouth outshot the bears, 14-6, with six of those shots on target. Bridgewater State goalkeeper, freshman Madelyne Guidaboni, put on a great performance with six saves in the shutout.
Graduate student Kylie Dias led the Corsairs with six shots and three on goal, including a breakaway opportunity to even the score that was denied.
UMass Dartmouth is home on Saturday for a 3 p.m. start against Fitchburg State where the Corsairs will celebrate their seniors.
