DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â Graduate student
Kylie Dias and sophomore
Jenna Carvalho scored to lift the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team to its first Little East Conference (LEC) win of the season, 2-0, on Thursday over Western Connecticut State University at Cressy Field.
The Corsairs improve to 3-13 and 1-10 in the LEC, while Western Connecticut falls to 5-11 and 2-9 in the conference.
UMass Dartmouth looked comfortable from the start, scoring their first goal at the 11-minute mark off of the stick of Dias from senior
Mya Amaral. UMass Dartmouth would hold onto its 1-0 lead going into halftime.
It took just 10 minutes into the second half for the Corsairs to extend their lead off a score from Carvalho with an assist from by
Maggie McCafferty. Sophomore goalkeeper
Hannah Trombly and the Corsairs' defense remained perfect to finish off the game.
Â
Trombly had one of her best career performances, with five saves in her first shutout of the season. McCafferty tallied two defensive saves and a shot on goal to go with her assist, while  junior
Maggie Doherty had two defensive saves of her own.
UMass Dartmouth looks ahead to its final game of the year on Friday, where they will host Worcester State at 7 p.m. at Cressy Field.
