NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth hockey team suffered its first defeat of the season, 3-1, to Stonehill College Saturday night at Hetland Arena. The Corsairs drop to 1-1 on the season, while the Skyhawks advance to 5-1.
Stonehill opened the scoring 16 minutes into the second period, when junior Max Pineo found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Frank Ireland. The Skyhawks extended their lead with a short-handed goal from freshman Carter Rapalje two minutes later.

During that same power play in the 19th minute, senior
Justin Weinbrenner answered off assists from junior
Cade Hanley and senior
Sky Silverstein, to narrow the Stonehill lead to one, making it a 2-1 game at halftime.
The Skyhawks opened the third period with their third and final score of the contest. 14 minutes in, Stonehill junior Matt Talarico scored off assists from freshman Matthew Pimental and senior Brendan Nehmer. The Corsairs would have many opportunities to cut into the lead, taking six more shots on goal, but were unsuccessful.

Senior goalie
Daniel Davidson finished with 26 saves on 29 shots in the loss. Stonehill's sophomore goalkeeper Gavin FitzPatrick finished with 27 saves and the win.

Matthew Zdanowicz led the Corsairs with six total shots.
