DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â An action packed game at Cressy Field on Thursday night finished in a 1-1 draw between the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team and Roger Williams.
It was the first tie of the year for the Corsairs (3-7-1), who got their goal on a penalty kick from sophomore
Caroline McAuliffe. The Hawks (5-7-1) also ended in a draw for the first time and had to score late to make it happen.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Madison Durkin stopped a career-high 11 shots in her fifth game in goal. Both teams finished with six corner kicks, while the Corsairs tallied seven shots on goal.
Durkin made four saves to keep the game scoreless after the first 45 minutes. UMass Dartmouth had opportunities from grad student
Kait Bernier, sophomores
Erica Reed and
Isabella Rita, and freshman
Lauren Couitt, but each shot was turned away by the Hawks' keeper.
UMass Dartmouth got on the board in the 74th minute. The Roger Williams keeper came racing toward the ball and tripped up sophomore
Kyla Lockhart in the box to set up the penalty kick. McAuliffe took full advantage to make it a 1-0 lead for the Corsairs.
Roger Williams answered in the 80th minute when freshman Sofie Morris set up senior Bianca Robbins for the equalizer.
The Corsairs had a late free kick where the ball went in the net, but it was waved offside by the referee.
