FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Senior
Sky Silverstein sent home a career-high four goals and senior
Justin Weinbrenner scored the game winner with under three minutes remaining in
the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth hockey team's 6-5 victory over Framingham State Thursday night.
The Corsairs advance to 2-2 on the season, and are now 1-1 in the MASCAC, while the Rams fall to 2-1 and 1-1 in conference play. Silverstein put on an incredible performance with four goals and an assist, with three of those scores coming consecutively in the first period.
Framingham State kicked off the high-scoring affair with goals from sophomores Dylan Marty and Eli Slagter. Silverstein then took over the contest with three goals of his own. Assisting on those scores were senior
Stephon Perreault, senior
Clay Ellerbrock and freshman
Billy McDevitt. The three unanswered scores would give the Corsairs a 3-2 lead going into the first break.
Framingham State opened the second period with a power-play goal to even the score at 3-3. Silverstein answered with his fourth goal of the game from senior
Michael Perrone during a UMass Dartmouth power-play. Perreault extended the Corsairs' lead with a goal of his own 11 minutes into the second period off assists from seniors
Cade Hanley and Silverstein. The Rams were able to cut the lead down to one at the end of the second period, making it a 5-4 game.
The third period remained scoreless for a while, as the Corsairs' defense fought to keep their lead. However, the Rams evened the score with a 13th minute power-play goal. That was until Weinbrenner scored the game-winning goal. Perreault secured the assist that allowed UMass Dartmouth to come away with the victory.
