Corsairs Take Defensive Battle Over Conn College to Open Season

Senior Jackson led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball secured a low-scoring, 57-52, victory over Conn College to open the season and the first round of the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament.

Prior to the game, the Corsairs honored their Sweet 16 team from 2021-22 and unveiled the banner for the new 1,000-point scorers.

Senior Jackson Zancan led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds on 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, while junior Isaac Percy was also in double figures with 15 points with three rebounds and three blocked shots. Freshman Nic Boyd made his collegiate debut at point guard with five points, six rebounds and five assists. Junior Michael Eurquhart Jr. grabbed eight rebounds with two blocked shots.

It took over three minutes for a point to be scored as John Martins Jr. netted the first basket of the year with 16:54 on the clock. Sophomore Theo Jadotte and Zancan then scored inside and Percy knocked down a triple to make it a 10-4 game with 10:08 to go in the first.

After a Conn College 3-pointer cut the score to 10-7, Percy, junior Bryson Andrews and freshman Ryan Flauto all picked up points for an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 18-7 with 6:33 in the half. The Camels brought the score back to 18-17 before Jadotte and Boyd hit shots to make it 22-18 at the break.

Four-straight points from Zancan and a jumper by Percy upped the lead to 28-20 with 17:21 to go. Zancan then drilled a pair of triples and Eurquhart threw down a dunk to ignite the crowd and give the Corsairs a 36-32 lead with 11 minutes left.

Six points by Percy and three's from 5th-year senior Dhalyn Sanders-Dyer and Boyd brought the lead back to 48-36 at the 6:11 mark. Jadotte and Zancan kept the Corsairs up by 10 with 2:38 to go. Conn College then scored seven-straight points to cut its deficit to 53-50 with 32 seconds left. Sanders-Dyer and Zancan then hit free throws in the final seconds to get the Corsairs over the hump.
