DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â It was a first night to remember for graduate student
Jordan Moretti and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team as the Corsairs blew by Regis, 72-42, Wednesday night at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Moretti became the 14th member of the 1,000-point club at UMass Dartmouth on a fastbreak layup with 53 second left in the first quarter. Moretti led the Corsairs with 21 points and added four rebounds, four assists and three steals, while classmate
Shaelyn Carreiro tacked on 11 points, four steals and three rebounds and junior
Teja Andrews tallied 10 points, five assists and three steals. Junior
Kaylin Zalewski added nine points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.
For Regis, freshman Madi Zancan, the sister of UMass Dartmouth's men's basketball player Jackson, led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds.
The first quarter was sloppy for both teams. Moretti drained a triple to open the scoring for the Corsairs and converted an and-one moments later to giver her 999 points and make it an 8-7 deficit. After buckets inside by junior
Jemima Joseph and Andrews, Moretti scored with 53 second left in the first for 1,000 and cut the Regis lead to 15-13.
Regis stayed ahead throughout the second quarter, extending its lead to 19-15 with 7:58 on the clock. Graduate student
Caroline Wilson then knocked down a three, Andrews scored inside and Moretti sunk a 3-ball to even the score at 23 with 3:02 until the half. The Pride got one more basket to go up, 25-23, at the break.
UMass Dartmouth turned on the jets in the third, utilizing a press to cause a number of Regis turnovers. Wilson and Carreiro each hit a three and Moretti got a pair of two-point baskets to go for a 10-0 run to start the quarter and give the Corsairs a 33-25 advantage. The Corsairs scored the first 18 points of the fourth to push the lead to 64-33 with 6:44 to go. Moretti, Zalewski, freshman

UMass Dartmouth hosts the first round of the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament on Saturday against Husson at 7 p.m.
