NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth hockey team suffered a 4-1 setback against Salem State at Hetland Arena Tuesday night.
The lone goal for the Corsairs (8-7-1, 5-4-1 MASCAC) came from senior
Griffin Wiencek in the first period.Â
Scoring for the Vikings (6-9, 4-7 MASCAC) were freshman Luke Day, junior Connor Woolley and seniors Joe Smith and Billy McGwin.
Salem State took a 1-0 lead at the 4:46 mark of the first period. Day received two quick passes from junior Eamonn Miller and freshman Matthew Young and sent home the first goal of the night. Moments later, Wiencek evened the score off an assist from junior
Justin Weinbrenner at 12:23.
The Vikings extended their lead with two goals in the second. Woolley sent home a rebound off junior Richard Coyle's initial shot 5:16 into the period. Smith then made it a 3-1 Viking advantage off assists from sophomores Keegan O'Donoghue and Erik Larsson.Â
UMass Dartmouth had chances to score in the third with power-play opportunities. Salem State's McGwin made it 4-1 in the final minute from Young to finish it off.
The Corsairs stay at home for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop on Thursday against Framingham State.
