DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team captured its 10th-straight victory by dominating Southern Maine, 96-57, Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Four members of the Corsairs (17-2, 9-1 LEC) scored in double figures led by senior
Adam Seablom's 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 3-of-3 from deep. Senior
Marcus Azor netted 17 with nine assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks, while junior
Jackson Zancan had 11 points and five boards. Sophomore
Mike Eurquhart had a huge game with 10 points, 14 rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals off the bench.
Graduate student
Jake Ashworth, senior
Sean Leahy and sophomore
Isaac Percy all had nine points, while Ashworth added nine rebounds. UMass Dartmouth out-rebounded Southern Maine, 53-29, and forced 19 turnovers.
Sophomore Simon Chadbourne was the only player for the Huskies (9-10, 4-6 LEC) to notch double figures with 12 points.
The Corsairs scored the first six points, including a quick first step and monster slam by Azor. Seablom nailed a three and back-to-back and-1's from Azor made it a quick 15-2 lead after the first four minutes. UMass Dartmouth continued to pour it on as Leahy and Ashworth each sunk triples. That was until USM went on a mini 6-0 run to cut its deficit to 27-18 with seven minutes in the half, forcing a Corsair timeout.
UMass Dartmouth closed the half on an 18-6 run with 16 of those points coming in the paint to extend the lead to 45-25 at the break.
Seablom sunk one from long range as the Corsairs opened the second with nine-straight points. Eurquhart found his rhythm, scoring a fast six points inside to compliment the consistent buckets from Azor and Seablom. Consecutive threes from Azor and Zancan made it a 73-42 advantage with 10:52 to go.
Percy scored all nine of his points in the final 10 minutes with two triples and an and-1. Junior
John Martins Jr. and 5th-year senior
Jarron Santos each scored a quick five points down the stretch, and sophomore
Austin Macek got in on the action as well as the Corsairs ran away with the blowout win.
UMass Dartmouth will travel to Southern Maine on Sunday for a 3 p.m. tip off.
